  • 43M HIGH PERFORMANCE SLOOP
  • 180' Flybridge Concept
  • 45m Long Range Cruising MY
The 43m High Performance Sloop was conceived in collaboration with Germán Frers Design for naval architecture and exterior styling, and Rhoades Young for interior design and styling. The intent was to design and pre engineer a modern yet ageless design that would exceed the expectations of the most discerning client. A design that selectively used rather than abused the vast abundance of technical innovations available to today’s yachtsmen. Noting a change in customer sentiment, a “quality up quantity down – less is more” philosophy became the final design brief.

The Frers design team chose to draw a powerful, easily driven high performance hull form with a fine forward entry. A modern, crisp sheer line balances the profile of a deck salon that integrates an expansive integrated bimini over the main cockpit and a center cockpit just forward of the helm stations. Paying particular attention to the underbody Frers drew a moderate draft, fixed bulb keel with short chord length; a fully balanced carbon fiber spade rudder is controlled by a mechanical steering system to maximize sensitivity and responsiveness under sail. The carbon fiber high-aspect sloop rig by master sparmaker Rondal offers powerful windward performance and low aerodynamic drag, whilst an in-boom furling system provides ease of control requiring minimal crew.

For visual simplicity, low profile deck furlers complement a tidy, clutter-free deck arrangement that includes margin free flush deck hatches with below deck hinges, recessed ‘pop up’ all-in-one cleats and fairleads and a below deck stern garage housing an eight person tender.

Forward an additional 3.4m crew tender, deck winches and anchor system are all concealed below deck as a final measure of attention to design detail.

For the Huisman 43m’s aft deck designers Frers and Rhoades Young collectively conceived the idea of bringing guests closer to the enjoyment of the sea around them by creating the so-called ‘beach deck’. Here a scooped out stern, visually lightening the transom, houses below deck, an 8 person tender that is deployed via an articulated swim platform that hydraulically contorts into a gently angled launching ramp. To add grace and formality, whilst hiding the visual simplicity of the tender garage, guests are welcomed aboard as they step from tender to platform, ascending an expansive ‘grand’ staircase leading to the main deck beyond.

To provide uncompromised eye lines, great attention has been focused on the aesthetic design of two independent steering stations. Placed outboard, yet socially linked to both cockpits, the helmman’s commanding view is completely interfaced with all sailing activities. Stepping into the protection of the main cockpit one is immediately embraced by the comfortable surrounds of the split arrangement that allows social groups to comfortably form no matter the angle of heel or state of weather. An integrated bimini bathes the area in cooling shade.

The feeling is also expansive; the main cockpit opening directly to the decksalon via a sliding ‘glass wall’ at the cockpit’s forward end.

Entering from the main cockpit the impression of open and airy is broadened by the visual extension into the approaching deck salon. Here Rhoades Young have accommodated formal dining for 10, with an all weather observation lounge to port. Entirely glass rimmed a casual lounge area anchors the social hub of life on board.

Aft of the deck salon a corridor leads to spacious guest cabins and an oversized master cabin that rises to a private cockpit connecting back to the beach deck.

Throughout the interior Rhoades Young have focused on symmetric design lines and open spaces. Opening hull ports centered between sliding screens and glass rimmed deck hatches play to the design brief that ‘less is in fact more’.

Emphasis has been heavily placed on the use of natural light and ventilation to circumvent the need for air conditioning and the senseless use of artificial lighting where nature can be left to prevail.

A good deal of thought has been applied to an environment that both visually and practically obviates clutter. As a whole this 43m design is a yacht that provides a smart and stylish experience and one that makes solid efforts to ensure that she leaves only positive ‘foot prints’ wherever she travels.
