Hanuman: Sailing Yacht of the Year

May 22nd, 2010

The 5th edition of The World Superyacht Awards recognizing the most outstanding superyachts delivered in 2009 took place at London’s Guildhall on May 22nd. More than 500 guests – superyacht owners, their families and friends, and senior members of the superyacht industry – enjoyed an evening whilst the Neptune Awards were awarded to the winners on the night. Hanuman - delivered in 2009 by Royal Huisman to her owner - received two Neptune Awards:

SAILING YACHT OF THE YEAR
Winner: Hanuman

Judges' Comments:
Chosen from among the three award winners in the sailing yacht classes, the judges felt that the combination of beauty and extremely high quality of construction concentrated in Hanuman made her a worthy winner of the title Sailing Yacht of the Year.

BEST SAILING YACHT 30M – 44M
Joint Winner: Hanuman

Judges' Comments:
The finalists in this class were a diverse group of yachts: Chrisco, Indio and Liara representing the 'modern high-tech'; Bliss and Cinderella the heavier displacement world cruising yachts; while Hanuman and Jazz Jr. kept the elegant flag of classicism aloft. Discussion was intense, with the difficulties of making fair comparison continually highlighted. The resolution was by secret ballot in which six aspects of design and build were marked. The result was, surprisingly, a draw, with the Royal Huisman-built Hanuman, a modern recreation of Tom Sopwith's fast and elegant J-Class America's Cup contender, Endeavour II, sharing first place with Indio, a high-tech, lightweight and high-performance 100-foot sloop designed by German Frers and built by Wally Yachts. Two diametrically opposite designs recognised for their individual merits.
