Royal Huisman

Taking delivery of your own custom superyacht and sailing her to the destinations of your dreams ranks as one of lifes most fulfilling experiences. And with the right choice of yard and location, the process of building her can come a close second. Building a fine custom yacht takes time, so it is time that should be enjoyed to the full participating in the realisation of your dream, building relationships with the people who bring that dream to life and, at the same time, discovering the cultural and environmental riches of the country of build.

Here are three factors that make Holland the natural choice:

Lets begin with the practicalities. Owners and their advisers make regular visits to the yard, from many points of embarkation. So the yard should be in a country with exceptional transport connections.

Amsterdams Schiphol Airport is one of Western Europes principal aviation hubs, with frequent flights to all parts of the world and excellent facilities for private aircraft and helicopters. It enjoys fast road and rail connections with neighbouring European countries as well as with towns and cities throughout Holland. Lelystad and Eelde airports offer even closer access to the Huisman yard for private aircraft. Helicopters can land on the spot.

For a small country, the richness and diversity of Hollands culture is astonishing. Centuries of Dutch seafaring, colonial settlement and trading introduced a wealth of goods, ideas and cultural influences from all over the world.

Amsterdam offers so much in its own right: the concentric canals lined by magnificent merchant houses; the street culture of cafes and bars; fine food from every part of the world; outstanding art and history museums; a royal palace; concert halls, music clubs, theatre and entertainment. Here you will meet some of the most welcoming people in the world, for whom English is a natural second language.

But there is far more to Holland. You can relive Dutch history at Zaanse Schans, eat a herring in Volendam, or visit the cheese market of Gouda. You can marvel at Den Bosch cathedral and the great churches of Maastricht, climb the Dom Tower in Utrecht and visit the mills of Kinderdijk.

There is a rich profusion of nature too: De Hoge Veluwe, Hollands largest national park; the Wadden Sea, Europes largest tidal wetland; the beaches of Zeeland; the hills of Limburg; the Loonse and Drunense Dunes known as Brabant Sahara; the Frisian lake districts and coastal islands; and close to the Huisman yard, the Weerribben-Wieden and the town of Giethoorn, known as the Venice of the Lowlands.

Sport and recreation opportunities abound: golf, fishing, cycling, canoeing, sailing, nature trails, tennis and more. The reed-banked canals and countryside surrounding Royal Huisman are home to countless varieties of bird and animal life, yet close to the fascinating Hanseatic villages of Kampen, Zwolle and Hasselt.

Dutch engineering skills and ingenuity can be seen at first hand with a drive around (and a visit inside) the vast Delta Works in the Rhine-Meuse-Schelde delta, the largest storm barriers in the world, incorporating pioneering technologies that have been exported globally.

Holland has it all. And it is all remarkably accessible.

Holland is an international centre of maritime engineering, innovation and technology. Leading edge operators are involved in the production, support and service of every type of seafaring activity from bulk carriers to research vessels, from salvage operations to drilling and exploration, and from super-ferries to superyachts.

These organisations are renowned for quality, pride in craftsmanship and their ability to work together to achieve extraordinary outcomes. One such company has over 30,000m2 of modern infrastructure, a large and highly skilled workforce delivering everything from advanced joinery to space age electronics, and well-established partnerships with the regions finest marine specialists. The Intelligent Engineering that results from this approach is focused exclusively on the goal of building the worlds finest custom yachts. That company is Royal Huisman established in 1884 and still committed to the same family-owned values that instill in its team an enduring passion for perfection.

Established in 1884 and bestowed the Royal Warrant in 1984, Royal Huisman is a highly respected, custom yacht builder. The shipyard is proud of its Dutch maritime heritage; its ability to push the boundaries of new technologies, systems and processes; and its understanding of the harsh marine environment in which these innovations must perform.

Like a fine musical instrument, immaculately crafted.

Naval architect
How do I know their after-sales service is good? Because crews sing their praises.

Superyacht owner
Theyre clearly not in it for the money thats secondary to the
pride in the engineering.

Huisman owner
You need to inspect their boats very closely to appreciate exactly how good they are.

Superyacht owner
Top of the quality league; technologically at the cutting edge.

Broker / project manager
You might get something that looks like a Huisman boat,
but it won't be a Huisman boat.

Huisman owner
The Rolls Royce of sailing yachts.

This yard is magnificent: Crme de la crme. Bullet-proof. Unassailable.

Superyacht magazine editor
From a quality standpoint, and a technical standpoint, nobody betters them.

Marine surveyor
After-sales service extraordinarily good, very diligent, customer-loyal, exceptional.

Huisman owner
The most important of all the things they do well,
better than any yard, is to look after their clients.

Project manager
Wonderful, wonderful craftsmen you can conceive of it,
but they can actually realise it, however challenging.

Naval architect
They create works of art, theyre not afraid of anything you bring to them. Very few people in the world, in any discipline, can do this.
